This is the first day of “Perry’s Great Adventure”. It’s 7:30 A.M. exhausted from packing and taking care of last minute details we stuffed all our household belongings into Dave’s workshop and closed the door behind us.

We waited to greet the neighborhood garbage man one last time to make sure we got everything picked up and left nothing in the street for our dear neighbors to deal with.

We were to receive our RV in Ashland, Or from the RV dealership. We stopped to get gas in our car in Redding, it was 112 degrees there. Finally we arrived in Ashland at 2:30 P.M. We were so excited to finally have our coach! The DMV papers got signed and we were notarized and all set to go. Before departing the transport man said, oh by the way there are no keys for the dead bolt and compartment storage bins. Horrified I told Dave we MUST find a locksmith because I don’t feel safe not having the missing keys.

So off to Medford we went. We parked in a Fred Meyer’s parking lot where we found a locksmith. Of course he had to take our set keys while he made some new ones for us. Dave and I sat in our newly acquired coach. I was dripping sweat from my forehead drop by drop. Exhausted, hot and weary by the then, I looked over at Dave, he was dripping too. All I could say to him was “do you want a paper towel to catch the drips? He nodded yes and we sat there for 1 ½ hours in the scorching heat.

Mission accomplished we got our keys. Off we went down the road to our intended destination Florence, OR it might as well have been Florence, Italy it seemed that far away. We stopped in Roseburg, OR for dinner at 8:30 P.M. We asked the waitress how far is Florence she said only about an hour. Off we went down the road two hours later into the pitch dark of night. I wondered more than once “Are we there yet?” I called ahead to Thousand Trails and said keep the light on we’re coming in! We arrived in Florence at 11:30 P.M. I could have slept on the ground even knowing there are bears in the woods at this point. We were sent to a quiet place to park for the night because we arrived so late. The Ranger said we would be too noisy to pull into our assigned slot then. Once we got to our space the slides wouldn’t open, our microwave didn’t work; the ice maker wasn’t operating just minor details that we needed to overcome.

We went for a walk and came upon another RV Pace Arrow that looked just like ours. Dave knocked on the door and after a few moments of conversation the nice lady let us come in. Her name was Joyce and she warmly welcomed us to the world of RVing. Her husband Frances and Joyce took us under their wings and educated us on many things we were yet to need to know. They have been traveling for 19 years and belong to the Pace Arrow Club. They invited us into their group of friends in their club and we spent time crabbing, eating and rolling with laughter about their stories and adventures while on the road. We now know a whole lot more about how to operate our rig thanks to their vast knowledge. Our time in Florence has been wonderful, relaxing, and full of much needed rest. I’ll sign off for now. Just expect more of our great adventure as in unfolds.

We are in Pacific City, OR. The weather here is incredible not too hot or cold. We have a site on the Bluff over looking the ocean. There’s a hiking trail all the way to the beach. As you can see in the pictures there are little black domestic looking bunnies all over the place. VERY friendly, they will let you feed them and pet them!

When we arrived here we met some wonderful friendly neighbors, one couple full timing for 9 years, one from Bothell, WA just vacationing. We have not had television even though we had the hook up equipment for Direct TV. Sooo the three men decided to take on the challenge of setting up our satellite. They were like the three stooges as the women sat and watched and laughed as they tackled the challenge. Eventually they were successful and we were able to watch the Republican Party news.

We are having wonderful time here and will be off to Seaside and Cannon Beach this weekend.

Bye for now, Dave & Jackie
